We accept many common plastic containers at our Recycling Center, including plastics labeled #1 PET, #2 HDPE, and #5 PP. These are commonly found on water and soda bottles, milk jugs, detergent bottles, yogurt containers, butter tubs, and similar household containers.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources recommends recycling plastics that are clean, empty, and dry. Food residue and liquids can contaminate recyclable materials and create processing issues.
Please rinse containers when possible and remove excessive food waste. Plastic bags, plastic wrap, and film plastics should not be placed in recycling bins, as they can tangle equipment and damage recycling equipment. Many grocery and retail stores offer separate collection bins for plastic bag recycling.
Items such as Styrofoam, hoses, toys, and heavily soiled plastics should not be placed in recycling.
